Maybe I should just go back to my original plan and abstain from posting until I have actual research to talk about.

I think that this is missing the point as well. MO is not for talking about things. It's for asking questions that you would like an answer to. It's in the FAQ that MO is not a discussion forum.

That is, similar to the old saying, "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say it", on MO, you should think "if you have nothing important to ask, don't ask it". Participating in MO does not necessarily mean that you need to constantly be adding questions and answers.
