As an amusing side note, after posting my link above, two more upvotes gave that account a "Nice Answer" badge. But the badges, like points, don't matter.... (No, I'm not complaining about that badge either.)

I'm aware that the quote is a nod to, or steal of, something from The Treasure of The Sierra Madre; but my recollection was that the "we don't need no stinking" formulation is unique to Brooks' film.

It's with great difficulty that I refrain from quoting that line from Blazing Saddles ... (I respect Gerhard's conscientiousness, but I think that the badges, like the promises of politicans, can and should be largely ignored.)

I have no clue regarding the badge, but regarding the vote:
on your account-page if you are logged in, you have [stats] some other things and then [votes] there you can see your (recent) votes.

Also an overall count of the up and downvotes (separated) you ever made, is on the account-page (even if not logged in).
So if you never downvoted anything before, you should be able to see there whether you now have one downvote recorded or not. (As this info is visible to everybody, I can assure you there is no downvote recorded.)

I can live with a critic's badge on this account (http://mathoverflow.net/users/3206/gerhard-paseman), but it came about through inadvertance. (Also, using a smartphone to text/edit makes me feel less smart.) Apart from deleting the account, is there anyway to remove the badge, even if it was technically earned but unintentionally so? (I think I reversed the downvote, but making sure of that would also be nice.)
