@Sadeq: one other (probably minute) user-dependent possibility is Internet connection. MathJax uses either image fonts on the server or web fonts through a CSS directive. Either case the fonts are downloaded through the internet. This could make a small geographical dependence.

@Sadeq: while I do not think this question is inappropriate, I do want to point out that the moderator prompted you to ask at Meta.SO, not here...

Anyway, do you have actual testing scenario or numbers to backup your observation? Like Kevin, I've found that the speed of rendering depends heavily on which browser and which machine I am using at the time. (For me personally, jsMath which we used before rendered much faster.)

(A bit off topic @Kevin: the Mozilla foundation rather closely guards its trademark on Firefox. Debian is, legally speaking, per the Mozilla Trademark Policy, not allowed to redistribute the version of Firefox which they compiled under the name of Firefox. Note: the Debian Iceweasel is not to be confused with GNU Icecat, formerly known as GNU Iceweasel.)

Thanks Kevin. I use Chrome (in fact, a Chromium-based browser named SRWare Iron) to access both sites (under Windows XP). Since the browser & the platform are the same, it's fair to assume that there's possibly something wrong with the configuration of CSTheory.

Just a remark that my mileage varies considerably at MO. On the Debian linux machine in my office, using chrome at MO, the formulas render instantly, but using iceweasel (what Debian calls firefox, for some reason) they take an age. I initially thought that the set-up of MO was buggy but I realised later on that I had the same problems at http://www.mathjax.org/demos/tex-samples/ ; using firefox the formulae took an age to load but using chrome they're fine. I concluded that the problems were at my end. I'm not saying that you have the same problems but I just thought I'd flag this as a possible explanation...

I asked this question on Meta.CSTheory, and the moderator offered me to ask it here.

To cut a long story short, the math support on MathOverflow (even on faketestsite) is much better than the support on CSTheory.

Specifically, when asking or answering a question, MO renders the formulas on the fly, while in CSTheory it takes quite some time before the formulas are processed.

I wanted to know how to tweak MathJax on CSTheory to behave like MO?
