Also, note that this is by design. The software behind MO is built such that discussion in the style of a BBS is discouraged, and most relevant comment (as determined by the votes) appears on top.

If youe expand the comments, you see them all in the right order. Otherwise you see the highest rated ones. In case of parity, you see the first ones in chronological order.

Am I the only one who is hopelessly confused by the apparently random ordering (I suppose it's a mixture of time posted and rating) of comments? for example http://mathoverflow.net/questions/28158/a-learning-roadmap-request-from-high-school-to-mid-undergraduate-studies
