I too think this is an acceptable question. There certainly have been instances of translations on MO. The only drawback I can see is if the transcriptions are very long, in which case an MO answer would be an awkward medium. In that case, I think it would be better if someone posted an external link to a more convenient location.

There is an interview of Kazuya Kato here: http://www.ms.u-tokyo.ac.jp/video/vgbook/idx_vguest2006.html (two before the last one) in Japanese. Would it be appropriate to ask for a transcription in English? I think quite a few students would be very interested in his experiences.
