I apologise for sounding old and jaded but the actual news hasn't been newsworthy for a long time. Everything has to be given the spin of some conventional plot that's easily digestible, or it won't make it into a newspaper. In that regard, the article is about as much as one could hope for. And while "insular" isn't quite accurate, it does partially hit the mark. Mathematics is a miniscule minority with rather arcane standards from a layman's perspective.

I haven't read through all the article, since on hitting the description of Deolalikar as

An outsider to the insular field

I could feel my blood pressure starting to rise... (it's the "insular" which riles me)

Still, I suppose the article does illustrate the profile MO is gaining.
