What I'd intended by that email to you and Qaiochu was that whenever an argument starts in the comments, the ideal is that either the 2nd or 3rd comment of the argument (i.e. the "antagonist" immediately, or the "protagonist" as soon as they realise there's an argument) is a "please move this to meta <link>" comment.

e.g.

"This is really lame, I hate everyone --- Alice" "No, life is wonderful, this is the best question ever --- Bob" "I still hate you. Please continue this at meta <link> --- Alice"
