If the question is closed, answers can still be edited. For this question, it's likely that most words worth naming are already named, and most activity will consist of adding other uses of these words. Thus I don't think that closing will make much difference for those who want to contribute to the question--but I may be wrong. On the other hand, I believe that editing answers to closed questions still bumps the question, so closing may not make much difference to those who want to stop seeing it either.

(I don't care whether the question is closed, nor do I have a vote anyway.)

Why not just vote to close it? Campainging against it is a bit overblown!

In any case, why it is time to close it? What's happened that has made it time? I find the question and most of its answers rather dull, but I don't think it has become such a nuisance that it simply has to go away.
