I'm sympathetic, but I think as a matter of policy we have to be very skeptical of these sorts of questions. MO is a place to get answers to mathematical questions, not pep talks. Obviously, there are lots of gray areas, but on so many of these advice questions, one just can't say anything general, and people need to talk them over with people who know them and understand their situation, not get uninformed advice on the internet.

It stayed open for a while and received already a lot of answers basically all telling 'don't worry' (in particular, 30+ upvotes for a comment to that extent) and giving various explantions for it. So, the question seems answered. Leaving it open might cause an undue expansion (and annoyance to some if it keeps populating the frontpage for too long), as it is a subject on which *a lot* of people could say something.]]>
