Those aren't laser-sharks. I read in the news that it's Japanese fishermen (and therefore Yakuza) and scavengers who pull up expensive cable all the time.

Starting about half an hour ago, I haven't been able to load "hidden" comments, nor have I been able to commit new comments. I'm still troubleshooting the issue, though I am not sure whether it is on my end or on MO's end (since Deane Yang was able to commit some comments at the same time).

I just opened a Meta thread on whether this question belongs on MO, it'd be nice if someone can add a link to that Meta thread to the original question as I am currently unable to do so. Thanks!
