No, no, no. The solution only exists for sufficiently nice initial data (Firefox + Fedora). The problem may yet be ill-posed for horrible initial data like IE + Windows. I may even wager that Charles' case is scaling super-critical, so switching to a new computer may even make the problem worse.

I am experiencing this same issue on my Windows machine running IE (but not on my Mac running Safari). I also tried it out in faketestsite, and did not encounter the same difficulty. Did it ever get resolved?

Could you try it out at http://faketestsite.stackexchange.com? (You'll have to ask a question since you don't have any rep.) I think that none of the javascript modifications we've made at MO could be causing the problem, but I'd like to make sure. If you get the same behavior there, then you should post a bug report on meta.SE.

On my office computer (running Firefox on Fedora), typing comments is painfully, painfully slow; as in, I type the letters, and they very gradually show up. Is there any good explanation for this?
