How important it is: in some sense to me personally (and to many people, or so I assume) not very much or at all (which is also why I said the wisest might be to wait) but then it seems like an anomaly in the working of the site, so that I thought I signal it when I noticed it.

Added May 24th: badges seem working again

For example Ben does not yet have a Student badge, while having asked a question that received an up-voye yesterday [very close to 24h] (at +6 now, so that presumably the first up-vote happened relatively close to time of asking); similarly but more recent Julian Chaidez , Marcelo Silva and Minirogue . By contrast the last Student badge seems to be also awarded one day ago (I cannot see a preciser time there but so it is 24h - 48h hours ago).

So the point in time this started seems narrowed down to 24h (minus epsilon) to 48h ago.

[I did not check in very much detail but some people do not have some badges they should have, with a delay significantly longer than the standard delay.]

However, it seems not since that long (a day or so).

It is now unclear to me from this thread whether last time the problem resolved itself (if so the wisest seems just to wait a bit) or whether somebody had to do something to resolve it (if so thanks in advance for doing this something again).

I can also confirm there is a problem, Sean Cox answered my recent question should have gotten several badges (his user is six days old) and he has received none.

Some badges are (always) given with some noticeable delay only, but this seems much too long. Further example: Minhyong Kim does not yet have a great answer badge while the answer being well above 100.

For example, I can find many examples of users who have 10 points, because they recently asked a question which has 1 upvote, but do NOT have the badge "Student". For example, see these questions:

http://mathoverflow.net/questions/106947/reflexive-besov-spaces

or

http://mathoverflow.net/questions/106922/flatness-of-contravariant-connections

or

http://mathoverflow.net/questions/106796/sufficient-and-concrete-condition-for-a-function-to-satisfy-some-measure-theore

Perhaps this is also something that I just don't understand about how these are being awarded. ]]>
