I can't follow Anixx's answer, but it's worth noting that the impossibility claim is only for continuous real functions. There may very well be a continuous complex solution, as far as I can tell from a quick read.

Just wanted to point out that I answered an old question about half-iterate of cosine and constructed the function which many claimed to be impossible:
