Here is my point. This is not a research question. The fact that it has 16 up votes (and many really interesting research questions do not get that many up votes) means, say, for a person who comes to MO first time, that the community cares more about rumors, anecdotes and "social interaction" than about research. This is potentially harmful for MO. So I think it is important that this kind of questions get closed as soon as possible.

Jon, I admit that I hadn't looked carefully at your question before. But now that I have, I can point out some differences. First of all you signed it, although I can understand why Anonymous wouldn't want to. The other more serious thing, is that Anonymous seemed to be explicitly soliciting stories/rumours of bad things that have happened, but perhaps I'm misreading it. Finally, you had
the advantage of asking first.

I decided to contribute an answer, since it appeared that some actual individuals wanted to hear what people thought. However, I would be happy if the question is closed, since I am also not convinced that it was asked in good faith. But perhaps I shouldn't be the one to cast the final vote.

I can't be sure, I believe I voted to close once, then I suppose it did get closed but re-opened? My take on the original wording was that it was malicious spam, we have at least one guy who deliberately asks about the most contentious things possible, just to watch the fight. I would be fairly happy to close it again, it may be a legitimate query but it has many answers already, those cover anything constructive I might have said.

I attempted to vote to close, it said I had already done so. Perhaps I am wrong about the history.
