Yup, I've merged [general] into [tag-removed]. As usual, if you're ever editing a question with the [tag-removed] tag, please remove it!

General makes almost no sense to me as a tag. I can almost see that if you ask a question and know of no other appropriate tag you might be tempted to tag it as "general"...but really this is pretty much a copout. If you can make your own tag, do so. If not, surely you can find something which is more descriptive.

Putting "general" in with other tags makes precisely zero sense as far as I can see.

The list of questions tagged [general] is rather an odd mix of non-questions, decent questions without appropriate tags, and soft questions of various sorts. I wonder (a) whether the [general] tag should exist at all, and (b) whether it is worth doing something about the existing instances of this tag.
