Closed isn't the opposite of interesting or enjoyable. Closed questions can be [Popular]. There's even a closed question which is [Famous]. There are also [Good Questions] which aren't [Popular].

You can still view and vote on closed questions, therefore you can still earn badges on closed questions. This is not your case, but it makes a lot of sense for big list questions which were closed as "no longer relevant" because they reached their quota of useful answers.

I was just awarded another "Popular Question" badge. But this time it was for my *closed* question ( http://mathoverflow.net/questions/3667/ ). An interesting feature of the software, I guess.
