@Qiaochu I've ran out of spam flags today (apparently one is restricted to five flags a day). I've never seen it this bad. There are 39 items flagged as spam under the tools link.

If the moderators could spare some time for a clean-out it would be appreciated.

I don't know. I imagine if the posts were overwhelming and clouding-out all the other posts on the front page, flagging for moderator attention or even e-mailing one of the moderators might be appropriate. This flare-up ?seems? to be contained.

Should users flag such posts "requires moderator attention" or "spam" to encourage a moderator to delete them right away? I am not in the habit of doing this, but maybe it is a good idea to keep the front page "cleaner". Moderators are, understandably, slow to delete on their own, so silly posts tend to hang around too long.
