    Please merge two versions of Powerpuff, id numbers 8078 and 8063

    The earlier of these, unregistered, has 91 points owing to an answer to:

    http://mathoverflow.net/questions/23943/can-a-positive-binary-quadratic-form-represent-14-consecutive-numbers

    The later of these, registered, gives a comment on August 2 underneath that answer, in reply to questions I put in comments. Text in this comment confirms, at least to me, that these are the same person.

    I think something along these lines might be a good candidate for one of the "sticky" Meta discussions, as it is a common request that shows up at irregular intervals that is often not controversial.
  1.

    As Will suggested, I've stickied this discussion.

    The MO user "kaddar" has 15 different accounts (at last counting). This has the practical effect that they are not accumulating rep., thus leaving answers instead of comments, etc. If possible, I wonder if their different accounts could be merged, and perhaps they could be contacted and encouraged to register.

  2.

    @Emerton: and there we run into a chicken/egg problem. Until they register, I don't think the MO admins have a way of contacting them.

    Dear Willie,

    Ah, I wondered if that was the case. Thanks for letting me know; I guess the minor annoyance this causes will just have to continue.

  3.
    There are now two Jacob Lurie accounts which should probably be merged (both unregistered though I think).
  4.

    Jacob Lurie, unless an impostor, should be relatively easy to find =) His page at Harvard is rather public at that, should people want to double check the authenticity of the accounts.

  5.

    @Willie,

    actually, often there are email addresses for non-registered accounts.

    I've dealt with both "kaddar" and this "Jacob Lurie" fellow.

    Dear Scott,

    Brilliant!

    Cheers,

    Matt

  6.
    There are still two Jacob Lurie accounts (apparently he answered a question 20 hours ago).

    kaddar seems to be having some difficulty still, see the series of answers he posted to his own question here: http://mathoverflow.net/questions/38456/higher-direct-image-of-a-coherent-sheaf

    It looks like he's not able to edit his question properly because he hasn't registered.

  7.
    There's nothing we can really do about the "you have to register to edit" problem, other than hoping that people will actually register, right?
  8.

    I wrote to Kaddar, and he's having trouble logging in, apparently because he can't create a google account for some reason. We'll see what happens there. Jacob, I think, had simply not realised that registering was an option, and upon being prompted registered one of his accounts.

    Nearly always legitimate accounts have a valid email address, so we can do what's happened here -- egregious instances of multiple users can be pointed out to moderators who can then try to explain via email how to register.

    Hello

    I also accidently created two accounts, could someone merge them? (or at least delete the second, which has my real openid?)
    http://mathoverflow.net/users/6689/lpenz
    http://mathoverflow.net/users/9337/lpenz

    Thanks
  9.

    @lpenz, merged!

  10.
    So the only way to get two accounts merged is to request it here? OK, please merge account 3815 into account 3684. Thanks.
  11.

    @Gerry, indeed it is, and I've merged your accounts.

    For future requests, it save some time for the moderators if you can provide the links to the relevant users pages, as lpenz did above, and is much appreciated.

    I would be happy if my two accounts

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/9684
    http://mathoverflow.net/users/9752

    could be merged. I think the first one is now registered in my name, while the second is
    probably unregistered. Both should be associated with rognes@math.uio.no .

    Many thanks!
    John Rognes
  13.

    @femto and @John, I've merged your respective accounts. Thanks for providing the relevant links!

    There are two accounts associated to Chris Burdzy.

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/9568/chris-burdzy

    and

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/9559/chris-burdzy

  14.

    @WillieWong, merged.

  15.
  16.
    Actually, now that I look at them closer, it seems very possible that these are three different people with some similarities in research interests.
  17.

    Sasha might well be the most common name for mathematicians, so we probably should be cautious here! :-)

    Help! I've been unable to merge this account:

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/10692/john-baez

    with my old one:

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/2893/john-baez

    The new one has some reputation points, but is unregistered. The old one is registered. I was perfectly willing to let the old one go, but every time I go to the new one, click on "Is this your account", and do the "Enter your email address and we'll send you an email that will allow you to recover your account" thing, I wind up getting sent to my old account... and strange stuff happens, which I will not recount here. I guess the point is that nothing I do will merge my accounts.

    I also have an older account:

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/1677/john-baez

    which could be merged or simply gotten rid of.

    Sorry for blundering around like this...

  18.

    @John: merged

    Please merge Wang Tao into Wang Tao. (They are the same person according to the explanation given here.)

  19.

    I merged the two Wang Tao accounts; neither were registered -- perhaps you could ask him to register, otherwise he'll probably just generate more accounts over time.

  20.
  21.

    @Oko: done.

    Hi. Can someone please merge my two accounts? my new one (which I'd like to keep)
    is registred and as open-id xn--jol-bellache-2eb7d.myopenid.com and username Joël
    My old one was not registred, had for username Joel Bellaiche, and only asked one question:

    Thanks,

    Joel

    @davidac897: It's not very clear that the two accounts are really owned by the same person. Could you please edit the account information so that they have the same email address?

    Okay, see the info section of both of them, that should be good enough. It wouldn't let me make both e-mails the same, it just says "this e-mail is under a different user" or something like that.
  27.

    Merged.

  28.

    These two sholud probably be merged.
