I find that in recent hours I was awarded "necromancer" and "nice answer" badges. How can I tell which answers these were awarded for? When I click on "recent" on my profile, it says when I got the badges, but nothing more.

There is no direct way to know (on SE 2.0 there would be).

However, inspecting your profile I can guess what they were.

The nice answer is for an answer with score 10. Your "why are so few oprations arity bigger than 2" is at 10, and in your rep history one can see that there was a recent vote on it. So this might well be it.

The necromancer is for an answer with score 5 and the answer was given long (dont know the precis time, but is documented somewhere) after the question was asked.

One of your answers that could qualify that are at exactly 5 is the "messy proofs" one (but there are more at 5 and I did not check all for nec. eligibilty); and this question was bumped recently, so that a recent vote seems all the more likely. (This'd be invisible in the rep history due to CW mode.)

You just have to guess. If we move to SE2.0 then it would tell you, but this version of the software doesn't.

  3.

You can't. (Another feature that is present on SE 2.0...)

There is a little icon of an envelope next to your name on top of MO. If there are any new messages (comments) for you, it is orange. If it is still white and you click on it anyway, it gives some choices, but mostly displays activity for just one day, including which of your questions or answers got some votes. With that information, it should not be too much trouble to figure out new badges.
