I am surprised to find that I am able to log in here, since I am suddenly unable to log in to mathoverflow or stackexchange, and I could not log in to meta on stackexchange. I get this error message:

Unable to log in with your OpenID provider:

failed to authenticate, returning Failed. Please ensure your identifier is correct and try again.

I use google as my OpenID. I have no problem logging in to google itself.

    What's going on?

This might not help much, but this login here has nothing whatsoever to do with OpenID, so it is not surprising that you can login here while not on the three others that are (I assume also MO) all somehow handled by stackexchange via OpenID.

I just came here to report that I'm also having trouble logging into MO. I get the same error message as Michael. I also use google as my OpenID.

I just checked that I have no problem with the same login-mechanism. So it does not seem to be a general problem.

The problem seems to have gone away!

Isn't it a theorem in Computer Science that to solve any problem you turn the computer off, wait a few minutes, turn it back on, and try again?

Seems to be back to normal some hours later.

Earlier I did not try turning the machine off, but I did try logging out and logging back in again, to no avail.

    On Gerry's comment:

A novice was trying to fix a broken Lisp machine by turning the power off and on.
Knight, seeing what the student was doing, spoke sternly: "You cannot fix a machine by just power-cycling it with no understanding of what is going wrong."
Knight turned the machine off and on.
    The machine worked.

It might help if you state the OpenID provider you are using since the problem might be caused by the provider (as it did some months ago when MyOpenID went down).
