We seem to have a chain reaction of 7 or 8 consecutive posts on the same topic getting closed and/or flagged as spam.
Should users flag such posts "requires moderator attention" or "spam" to encourage a moderator to delete them right away? I am not in the habit of doing this, but maybe it is a good idea to keep the front page "cleaner". Moderators are, understandably, slow to delete on their own, so silly posts tend to hang around too long.
I don't know. I imagine if the posts were overwhelming and clouding-out all the other posts on the front page, flagging for moderator attention or even e-mailing one of the moderators might be appropriate. This flare-up ?seems? to be contained.
I tried flagging the last two. We'll see what the moderators think when they look in.
Enough spam flags or enough downvotes (I don't recall the exact number for either) will automatically delete a post, so stay vigilant!
Okay, I'm walking home from work now but will try to have a look soon.
I just deleted a whole lot of "Halmos" things. I also cleared all the "spam flags"; perhaps this even resets people's quota, I'm not quite sure how this works.
I have my full quiver of 5 spam flags back. Thanks, Scott. :)
Spam, I learned, is very popular in Hawaii.
Okay, this suggests that if you ever run out of spam flags, but the inundation continues, that you should email moderators@mathoverflow.net to let us know. (And perhaps remind us that we can clear spam flags; I hadn't known this until today.)
