Jean-Louis Loday passed away yesterday, after a sailing accident.

Here is the message (in french) I received today from the head of the Math Department in Strasbourg:

    "Chers Collègues,

Nous venons d'apprendre avec beaucoup de tristesse que notre
collègue et ami, Jean-Louis Loday est décédé hier victime d'un
    accident de la mer.
Sa disparition brutale est un choc pour tous.

Toutes mes pensées vont vers ses proches et tout particulièrement
    son épouse."

Oh, I am sorry to hear that. May his soul rest in peace.

BTW, is he a user in MO ?.

@DamienC: Thank you for letting us know. I see now that it was also reported on the EMS web page.

@Zeeshan Mahmud: I would appreciate it if you changed the tone of the question in your post (or perhaps removed the question entirely), so that it won't be mistaken as unreasonable criticism of everyone who reads meta.mathoverflow.net.

@Shanmukha: If he used MO, he didn't use his real name.

I did not know Jean-Louis Loday, but I am very sorry to hear that he passed away. This said, I find Zeeshan Mahmud's comment incomprehensible, and potentially very offensive.

I echo every word of Angelo's comment. As someone who, on seeing the original post by DamienC, went straight to the nLab to update JLL's entry with a link to the SMF website with this sad news, but who thought it more proper not to come on here and start ostentatiously and dishonestly wailing and gnashing my teeth ... yes, I am damn well offended by ZM's implication. It is utterly thoughtless.

I don't know who is this Zeeshan Mahmud. He used this kind of offensive comment with me too. That made my previous thread closed unnecessarily. People as the part of good mathematical community should learn their limits of interaction. One should not be so close in forking the personal issues. On the other hand one should not be so harsh . Too much is too bad than too little.

I even heard ( through other users ) that there was some human ( I don't know about his sex ) from India who went with the moniker "trust god " or "Srinivasan". People in the beginning misinterpreted me as that person. But being situated in India, I know that the India lacks sophisticated facilities that rest of the world enjoy. Libraries and other things are only limited to urban areas.

So unwelcoming some person who is interested in mathematics is completely wrong thing. BTW I don't know what happened ( Why did the community ban him and so on.. ) .

Is there some racial discrimination that community observes for the people who belong to India ?.

I don't think it is the case. I have asked 3-questions so far, and I got reply for all of them. I don't know what happened with TrustGod or Iyengar or Srinivasan. Does all the three same or different.

    << Any way its off-topic here>>

I think we are way over the point where this thread needs to be closed.
