    Every time I vote down some question or answer, the system subtracts one point from my own reputation.
    Just curious: is it supposed to work this way?

    Yes, that's how it goes. The system asks you to pay for downvoting but upvoting is free. It's a clearly inflationary economy. Endless quantitative easing.

    You don't lose points for voting down questions and answers when they are in community wiki mode.

    This has changed somewhat in SE2.0. Downvoting questions no longer costs rep, but downvoting answers does. See http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/97838/downvoting-is-not-causing-reputation-loss and the thread linked.
