In the stackoverflow faq, there is give a 1000 reputation perk, "Show total up and down vote counts", which is totally absent here.

What the hell does that thing mean, and why is it not relevant to MO?

  1.

    No, it means something else.

Suppose a post has a score of 12. It could mean that it's gotten 12 upvotes and zero downvotes, or it could have 22 upvotes and 10 downvotes. On MO, the only way you can tell which is the case is by looking at the reputation graph of the user who owns the post to see how much reputation they earned/lost on that post (on CW posts, there's no way to tell). On SO, if you have >1000 reputation, you can see the total number of votes a post has received, so you can deduce the total number of up/down votes (in the first case, it would be 12, and in the second case it would be 32).

Once SE comes out of beta, they're going to merge most (all?) of the new features from SO, so the feature will probably make it to MO eventually.
