For this answer I needed to embed an image from wikipedia, and wikipedia didn't seem to allow this. So I copied it over to imageshack and embedded it.
The problem is that as the traffic grows, imageshack will protest about bandwidth stealing. It might start cutting images when maximum bandwidth is reached. Or maybe after some period of time the image will be deleted automatically. Is there a way in which I can actually host the image at MO itself, without using an external site(and encountering related problems)?
The [Wikipedia article] says
The image will be rendered inaccessible if the image uses over 300 megabytes of bandwidth in a one-hour period.
I think we're very unlikely to come up against this problem. Even the most popular questions get only a few hundred views per hour. Given that Stack Overflow hasn't had the problem of free image hosts giving out, we probably won't either.
