I am just wondering if anyone knows a site which is similar but at a lower level, most of the math forums are sort homework help type things - but I was trying to find something where people discuss whatever math they are interested in (of course this is why I started to go to uni but it turns out the people there are not really into mathematics as much as letters.. in particular As and Bs..)?

I guess this question is sort of offtopic because it's not about mathoverflow but it could maybe add to the faq or something.

"Ask a topologist", "Ask an algebraist", "Ask an analyst".

  1.

http://www.artofproblemsolving.com/ has a section for college mathematics. A lot of it is homework help, but nevertheless there are a lot of very smart people around who can answer your slightly lower-level questions.
