I interpret this saying that the page mathoverflow.net/news essentially stopped being the "news" page.
I removed the "news" link earlier today for exactly the reason Ilya mentioned. It seems like it's better to just post a system message and make a new thread here on meta when something happens, since that way people can discuss it.
I just thought that "meta" could be useful at the place where "news" formerly was. What if we added it? Just a wild idea.
