Today I made a comment, only to realize seconds later that there was a typo. Since I could not find a button to edit the comment, I just erased it and made a new comment with the mistake corrected. Is there another way?
  2.

Sorry, no. This feature is [status-planned] on meta.SO. Once they implement it, it shouldn't be long before it's folded into Stack Exchange.

I guess we'll just have to wait for it. Thanks for the answer.

I want to second this request: it would be great to be able to edit comments.

I find it rather strange I can (now) edit other people's answers but not my own comments!

I just delete my comment and repost. It's really not that annoying.

It would be annoying if you only realised later on that you'd made a slip, because deleting and re-posting moves the order of your comment. I mistyped "empty set" as "smpty set" and only noticed after someone had added another comment; by that point I was doomed.

Woohoo! SO finally has the edit comments feature. It should now just be a matter of time before we have it on MO as well.

It has been nearly three months. Will this feature be available imminently?
  8.

It has been a while, but we've been expecting this --- StackExchange is in its last beta iteration, and they'll start migrating SO features once we're out of beta.

I'll give you guys another week. After that, it's time to ragequit.

    ;)

I'm a bit surprised by how long SE has remained in beta. They announced a month ago that the beta was almost over, but I haven't heard much since. I'm pretty sure this feature will be added shortly after the beta ends. A week is far too optimistic, even if the beta were to end right now, but I don't have any special information about what kind of a time frame to expect. For what it's worth, I recently had a phone call with somebody from Fog Creek about SE, and I explained that this is one of our pain points with the software (together with a small number of other features).

Hi - I just searched for "editing comments" and found this topic -- stackexchange seem to have had this for some time now, how is this coming along here?

They probably implemented it in SE2.0 and, as we may know, we didn't migrate.

On math.stackexchange you can edit your comments for five minutes (after first posting it?), enough to to fix minor errors if you got the overall message correct.
