There are certain sites that are directly related to MO or other sites. The specific example I am thinking of is Math.SE. The suggestion is that MO rep be added to an associated Math.SE amount of rep.

Only if it goes one way. If I could inherit my MO rep over at math.SE, I might actually follow what's going on over there. However, if someone inherited rep here gained at math.SE, that would be really really bad.

This is not as one-sided as it sounds, though. Questions and answers on MO exceed the math.SE standards, and it would make sense to count them there. The converse is not true, however.

    I'm not in favour.

On the new SE sites then you get a little "joining up" bonus if you've sufficient rep on the main SO sites (about 100, I think), but in general I would say that each site is for a slightly different community and just because you've been successful in one doesn't give you the right to have a say over one of the others.

I'm with Andrew. I would have no objection to MO and math.SO being linked in the "get 100 rep for being a good SO person" sense, but the two scores should be largely independent, because the sites are for different communities with different needs.

Agreed with Andres and Charles. It would encourage gaming the system (e.g. for someone who wanted to boost MO rep to be very active on math.SE since it's easier to gain rep there). Also, then active users on one site would have additional powers (e.g. closure votes) on a potentially totally disconnected one.

I want 4000+ rep on math.SE, but I don't want Justin L to have 1400 rep over here... My reasons are purely selfish.

I am really only interested in being able to do a few things at any of the SO/SE sites, vote up questions, comments and make comments, maybe vote down. The system i was originally envisioning would have been one sided so that for example Andrew could edit to make them clearer. But I think that Andrew, CS, and Akhil have good points. We wouldn't want to be butting in and helping if they didn't want our help.

This is a feature request i mentioned before, which it sounds like will in fact be implemented to a certain extent. But i guess this wont affect MO...yet

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts and good points
