Is it going to be 10000 or 10*1024? Either one seems mathematically unremarkable, in concordance with the silliness of ribbon-cutting on this occasion, especially if the jubilarian per chance turns out to be of the HELP!! I CANT DO THIS PROBLEM variety.
=(
How can you tell it's the 10000th question? MO tells me there are 9,923 questions (and I guess the post ID, 36926, also counts everything else?)
@Mariano: you get slightly different numbers by looking at the different tabs on the questions page. I get 9924 "hot" questions, but 10055 questions in the "newest", "active", and "votes" tabs, so that's probably the right number. I don't know what makes a question "hot". These numbers don't count deleted questions, but the post IDs do.
These are all with a 2 week averaging window.

Cool! The drops on new year's days are funny.
Scott Morrison, thanks for posting this! I was really curious to see some data of this form, and even thought about asking whether it is available somewhere.
@Kevin: Did you also notice the drop around the beginning of the fall term in North America?
@Joseph: I think it's more likely that the majority of new users don't post. The trend in number of posts per day may also in part be due to math.SE taking up the attention of some of the more active users.
