First of all, this question is going to make me look completely obnoxious. Sorry about that.
Is there any way that the "You have received a new badge" notification could be turned off in cases where a user has received the badge many times before? Or at least make it remember that I closed the notification (clicked on the X) without me having to click over to my profile and click back to the main site?
I've got a lot of "Nice Answers". It really isn't exciting anymore to click over to my profile and work out which answer received its tenth vote, it's just sort of annoying.
I'd imagine you could write a Greasemonkey script to hide that kind of thing. I'm not quite adept at Greasemonkey scripting but from what I've seen other people do with it, it probably isn't too hard to do yourself.
Oh, god those badges can be annoying: the 1000-th person/bot just looked at your really old (and in hindsight fairly silly) post -- congratulations! They were kinda cute when I was new... but now for every stackexchange site you go to and their respective meta sites, you get all sorts of annoying popups. "I just copy/pasted your information from another site -- congratuations!" "You upvoted -- congratulations!"
