We have reached the point where many questions and answers appear to coming to us from the future! It's now hard to tell whether a question or answer was posted in October 2009 or October 2010. Date stamps show the year once they're over a year old, but it would be nice if everything from 2009 had its year written next to the date. Probably this is something that would need to be adjusted on the underlying software.

Do people agree that a change should be made, and if so, how would we go about requesting it?

You may already know this, but if you hover your mouse over any sort of a time label e.g. "6 hours ago", "1 day ago" either in questions, answers or comments, a tooltip will pop up that gives a full time stamp including year and time down to the second.

  1.

The timestamps do show the year if it's not the current year. See, for example, this question

  2.

Yes, but it does not work if it is currently october 6, and the original post was made on october 28.

  3.

Oh, you're right. Timestamps only include the year if the post is more than one year old. Hmmm ...

  4.

Perhaps timestamps should include the year on posts more than, say, eleven months old. (I picked this number arbitrarily.)
