Dear Hearts, I know I said I'd stay out of here, but I just posted something at my blog I'm quite proud of and wanted to share it with MO. I'm putting it in Meta because I didn't know where else to put it. I'd really like as much feedback as I can can get on it,particularly from the algebracists:

Thank you for your attention,we now return you to your regularly scheduled questions and I'll disappear again. Sincerely, Andrew L.

    TL; DR.

I also have a serious problem with you using meta as your soapbox.

  1.

Andrew, I think this is really inappropriate. You are free to post whatever you want on your blog, but you are not free to advertise it on meta as you like. This has nothing to do with MO and therefore does not belong on meta.

I agree with the sentiments posted above by Qiaochu and Harry.

There are a number of other bloggers who are active on MO, for example Terry Tao and the members of the Secret Blogging Seminar. Do you see them spamming meta whenever they update their blogs?

Andrew, thanks for sharing, although I don't think this is a proper use of meta. By now, your blog is quite famous (I saw that Terry Tao made a comment on the previous post), so I don't think advertising here is even necessary. I will visit it from time to time!

Thank you and I apologize. I just wanted the input of professionals on the list and obviously, it doesn't belong at the main board. I could have emailed everyone individually-but I was worried it might be too intrusive. So meta seemed like the right way to go. I actually did email Scott Morrison with the link and asked him to do exactly that. But I really wanted to try and do it personally-he's got enough to do without being my messenger boy. @Hailong Thanks for your kind words. Ok,I'll leave meta as well from now on unless I have a legitimate question about an official MO post. A QUESTION,not a comment or an opinion. Sincerely, Andrew L.

At one time ( http://tea.mathoverflow.net/discussion/350/new-mathematical-site-online/ ) I questioned using meta.mathoverflow for discussion of another site. But in that case, Scott Morrison subsequently formally invited that other site to use meta.mathoverflow for its discussion...

Gerald, there is a difference between a blog and Andrea's site...

Particularly when the blog post in question isn't even (initially) about mathematics!
