    @jc,

I've emailed Paul saying that if he registers an account I can merge them for him.

  3.

And they've now all been merged into a registered account.

    Another "michael freedman" has appeared.

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/16045/michael-freedman

The main account seems to be here

  5.

@jc, merged, thanks. Neither account is registered, unfortunately, so this may continue!

@Will, I know him pretty well too (I worked for him for 2 years at Station Q, and have been a regular climbing partner). If MathOverflow comes up sometime, I'll remind him he can register, but I don't think it's worth the bother of trying to sort out over email.

I think I knew about the climbing, I was at UCSD for a bit in the late 1980's when my adviser went walkabout.

    Allen Hatcher is fragmenting.

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/1774/allen-hatcher

I've been encouraging him to acquire an OpenID. Maybe this will push him over the edge!

  7.

I've patched Allen Hatcher back together again.

  8.

Merged, and I'll get him to register sometime.

  9.
This is embarrassing, but I originally went by hilbertthm90 since I used it on several other sites: http://mathoverflow.net/users/3732/hilbertthm90 but then decided I should use my real name since it seemed kind of standard here: http://mathoverflow.net/users/14672/matt so they should probably be merged. I used an "openID" for both (wordpress then google), so strangely I don't think I have an actual username and had to create yet another one to post here on meta.
  10.

meta.MO is a separate system we jury-rigged. On SE 2.0 sites, having an account on the main site automatically gives you an account on the associated metas as well.

  11.

@hilbertthm90: you're merged. Note that you can change your display name without creating a new account (go to your profile page and click "edit"). You can also change the OpenID without creating a new account (go to your profile page and click "change openid").

These accounts (the first one is unregistered) should be merged if possible:

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/17809/john

    and

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/4834/john-l

See this answer for proof of the common identity. (And thanks!)

Could you please merge the unregistered user http://mathoverflow.net/users/17236/maxime with the registered user http://mathoverflow.net/users/13027/m-turgeon . I created a new account by mistake a few weeks ago. Sorry!

    and

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/18551/nicola-ciccoli

    can they be merged? Thanks

Thank you, Scott. The text from his questions shows that he used a different name for one of the identities. Briefly, I think, he had a somewhat confused idea about a possible benefit of doing that.

After Noam Elkies answers this one:
    http://mathoverflow.net/questions/77986/which-diophantine-equations-can-be-solved-using-continued-fractions/
he has a comment below where he replies to R.Thornburn, which would be the alternate identity. Below that Samuel comments:
"Thank you both very much, and sorry about my identity crisis. I initially wanted to vote the answer to Question 70913 to a non-negative number. I don't want to be deceitful."
Perhaps he means that his answer http://mathoverflow.net/questions/70913/reduction-from-factoring-to-solving-pell-equation/77422#77422 was initially downvoted? Not sure. Maybe he saw that it got no upvotes after a few hours and became worried that it would be downvoted. When that happens to me, I just delete my answer.

In the comments below the (same) main question, the interchange:

"I have asked them to merge the two registered accounts of yours that I know about, 17053 and 18487. – Will Jagy 2 days ago"

"Thank you very much Dr. Jagy. I apologise for the crime and the inconvenience. There are only two accounts. – Samuel Hambleton"
  19.

Thanks Will. I think I've resolved the situation appropriately, and am happy to explain details privately if anyone cares to know.

Excuse me, I think I did something wrong when trying to input my open ID, and as a result now there are two accounts in MO with my name, Sergei Akbarov:

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/18943/sergei-akbarov

    and

    http://mathoverflow.net/users/19121/sergei-akbarov

Is it possible to merge them?

And besides this, perhaps it is possible to change my login in Meta from "akbarov" to "Sergei Akbarov"?

If you search for your own account and, well, click on yourself, it should show your current Meta information, but then on the left, under "Start new discussion" and then under "Account Options" it should let you click on "Personal Information" for editing. Since you just left a post on this thread, you may click on yourself here, without the search feature required.
  27.
@Will Jagy: thank you, I corrected my data in Meta, but I did not understand, how can I merge two users with my name (or delete one of them)?

Sergei, the moderators merge identities, see earlier requests by other people in this same thread. But this is a holiday weekend in the U.S., it may take a few days. Thursday was Thanksgiving, often people travel to be with family.

  30.

@jc, I've combined these. Maybe someone who knows Ronnie could explain how to register an account.

  31.

    Hi all,

as we've recently had a few people ask to merge accounts via email, I wanted to add a note suggesting that this forum is the best place to make such requests. You're welcome to email the moderators using moderators@mathoverflow.net, but we'd prefer that this only be used for urgent matters or anything that needs to be dealt with privately. A "routine" request like merging accounts can just happen right here. It's easier for everyone involved, and the "load-balancing" works automatically!

    best, scott
